
Honolulu, Hawai’i (May 27, 2009) --- The Ohana Matters Educational Foundation (OMEF) announced today that Aaron Tai from Kailua High School has been awarded the 2009 OMEF Scholarship. Aaron was chosen to receive the scholarship due to his academic accomplishments, commitment to his community, and determination to succeed in a career in Science and Mathematics in Hawaii.
Hawai’i State Representative Chris Lee and Layne Fitzpatrick, Executive Director of the Ohana Matters Educational Foundation, presented the $10,000.00 scholarship check at a ceremony held in the Kailua High School auditorium on Tuesday, May 26, 2009. Along with the scholarship, Aaron will be receiving an internship and a career mentor at a selected local company in conjunction with the University of Hawaii.
"I am delighted that Aaron Tai has won the Ohana Matters Educational Foundation Scholarship Award," said Hawai’i State Representative Chris Lee. "He not only has an outstanding record in his academic work, but has also dedicated himself to his family and community in every possible way."
Aaron Tai will attend the University of Hawaii, Manoa this fall semester and plans to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics. He is an exceptional student and is the Kailua High School Varsity Baseball Captain and AVID Club Senior President, a fourth through twelfth grade program preparing students for college eligibility. Aaron contributes his time and talents to helping to the community by volunteering in organizations and events such as Ulupo Heiau, Kailua Beach Clean Up, Kamehameha 4 Residential Clean Up, Maunawili Elementary Mentoring, Kailua High School Imu Fundraiser, Kailua High School Fun Run, and Adopt A Highway.
